The Old Cottage, Sudbourne.

A charming and very spacious three-bedroom thatched cottage quietly nestled in the village of Sudbourne. The property features ample parking, a lovely garden, and three reception rooms (sitting room with log burner / dining hall / drawing room).

The space

Situated within the Suffolk Coasts and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Sudbourne is a popular village with a thriving community, a beautiful 14th-century church, and superb, scenic walks.

Neighbouring Orford (2 miles) is an especially delightful village set on the River Ore. It is home to the award-winning Pump Street Bakery, a superb village store with postal services, two public houses and the Butley Orford Oysterage.

The village is a popular centre for watersports and home to Orford Sailing Club, there are also playgrounds and football fields.

Within the stunning Suffolk Heritage Coast are an array of other attractive towns and villages. Snape (3.5 miles) is home to the internationally renowned concert hall at Snape Maltings. Aldeburgh (9 miles) famed for its close association with the composer Benjamin Britten offers a selection of independent shops, galleries and highly recommended restaurants.

This charming and cosy home is the perfect retreat from the busyness of everyday life. In keeping with this peaceful atmosphere, we’ve deliberately chosen not to have a TV—instead, we invite you to relax, explore nature, and enjoy the quiet surroundings.

But don’t worry—if you still want to stay connected, there’s excellent broadband throughout the house, so feel free to bring your laptops or tablets for entertainment, streaming, or work.

Whether you’re seeking a digital detox or just a change of pace, our home offers the ideal space to relax and recharge.

It also features a Jack and Jill bathroom shared between the king and single rooms, offering both comfort and convenience for families or small groups.

One of the highlights is the beautiful wrap-around garden, providing plenty of space to relax, play, or enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Inside, you’ll find a wood-burner stove that adds warmth and character to the living space, but please note that the other fireplaces are not functional. For safety reasons, no BBQs or candles be used during your stay.

Guest access

The property has two staircases, one of which is quite steep and open on the landing area and as such we feel that the property is not suitable for younger children (under 7). By all means, let us know if you have young children - we are happy to discuss feasibility.

A relative used to own the house next door when I was a child, so it was thrilling to revisit the location many, many years later, and be in, almost, the exact same place. The area has only improved over the years. The cottage was a lovely, comfortable, place to stay, although in August we spent nearly as much time in the delightful garden as we did indoors. In the (2026) heatwave, the cottage was actually pleasantly cool. We had all the amenities we could need, and everything worked perfectly. The surrounding woods are a walker's dream, and our dog loved them too. Nearby Orford is a really good place to visit, so too Iken, Snape and of course Aldeburgh. I enjoyed cycling around this area, and wish I could have done more. Wholly recommended!

Thank you for a relaxing stay at the gorgeous old cottage. It was so peaceful, beautifully decorated and very charming. The cottage also had all the things we could possibly need, including games and books for the children and a full range of things in the kitchen. We were sad to leave

Great stay at this lovely thatched cottage. Our dog particularly loved the garden and it was great to be able to bring him with us. Cottage is lovely and restful with everything you would need, plus the property is managed by an external team, so you can feel confident they are on hand if you have any issues. Thanks for having us!

Lovely cottage, great amenities and situation with a forest at the end of the lane - perfect for dog walking. Terrific garden and within easy reach of the coast.

This was a perfect, idyllic country cottage, and we had a wonderful stay. It was very comfortable and clean inside, with lovely bedrooms and bathrooms. But the top feature for me was the big, wrap-around mature garden to wander and sit in, complete with flowers, trees and veggie patch. The location is extremely quiet, except for birdsong, and close to the coast and lovely countryside. Thankyou to the hosts - we'll definitely come back.

We had a perfect long weekend here playing board games, going for beautiful evening walks and exploring Suffolk. The house was really comfy and had everything we needed, the kitchen particularly was really well stocked and easy to cook in. Communication was great as well.

Great facilities. Everything you would need in the kitchen, lots of hot water and nice modern bathroom and shower room. The house itself was quirky with interlinking rooms giving it an interesting layout. Great for hide and seek! Lovely big garden which was enclosed, so perfect for our dog. Parking for three cars. We were lucky enough to have superb weather so spent time in the garden with access to sun umbrella, deck chairs and outdoor games. Really recommend this property.
